enjoy a magazine on a lazy weekend

A great way to relax on a lazy weekend is to cuddle up the couch and day bed and enjoy a nice read. I have to admit that I haven’t done much magazines shopping in the last few months. The only time I can afford to enjoy the ads and articles in a magazine is when we check in to a hotel room during our project. Since the summer break is offering a little space breather, it’s time to order a couple of good titles and pick some relaxing read again.

When it comes to magazines selection, most of us would pick one that matches our passion and interests. For instance, modern animal enthusiasts will find Animal Fair Magazine is a unique publication for animal lovers since the publication covers celebrities and their pets, along with general information regarding animal health, pet supplements, nutrition, grooming, and training. Available in 2-year subscriptions only.

eBay Bidding Tips

Shopping on the web has truly revolutionized the buying habits of many consumers. And the buzz about bidding for things on online has made shopping all the more interesting than ever. It has become an online sport. Now you could buy items the regular way online or you could bid for them and have a chance to buy it at a different price which could be lesser than the usual channels. So how do you do it? Here a few pointers.

Go to the eBay web site and sign in

Browse the products that are available for bidding. Some merchandise which you actually might want to acquire maybe second handed items but are in good condition. Do a window shopping of others items before bidding, you might find stuff that are also of interest to you. Make a list because you could bid for multiple items at a time.

Find the item you want to actually bid on

Check if it is a multiple item auction or not. Then check the bidder’s history list for that particular item. How many are exactly bidding for that item? Then ask yourself if you really want to compete with them for the merchandise. Will it be worth the time and hassle? If it is then go place a bid.

Check if there’s a minimum bid amount and place a bid

Enter a bid that’s within your budget and capacity. If you are the first bidder for that item of course start with the minimum bidding amount. If nobody counters your bid, you would have purchased that item at a cheap amount and have won the auction. However, if someone else has beaten you to the lowest bidding amount then bid higher than the current amount and counter his offer. Once you have decided a bidding amount, click to submit the bid. Usually a message will be sent to your email address confirming that you have entered the bidding list and your bid was recognized. Now another email will be sent to you if somebody counter offers your bid or if you have won the bidding process for that item. If it’s not a congratulations kind of a note that means you have two options you can do. You either give up the item for auction or its time to raise your bid and counter his offer. Basically repeat the bidding process and bid higher. Either way, you should evaluate if the cost is worth it.

Know the closing time auction for that item

There usually is a set deadline for all bidders to stop the auction process and award a winner to the item up for grabs. Note this date down and monitor the auction until it closes. Most of the time there a last minute bidders that will drive you crazy and spoil your expectations. Sometimes you are just obliged to counter their offer since you have been monitoring the item sick for the last 24 hours.

Purchase the item thru your credit card

After you have won the auction, make a note of the amount you paid for the item and also note the date you purchased it. Also take note of extra fees and shipping charges. Know the delivery date.

Interview with Karen Preston of A Rabbit Girl

How did you get your start?

I have always made art. Its in my blood. I don’t think I could live if I stopped making art. It would like if I stopped breathing.

Do you have any formal training?

I attended Mt Wachusett community college for two years and studied fine arts. The I went on to get my Bachelors of illustration from the Savannah collage of art and design.

il_430xn29919567.jpg

When and why did you create your business?

I started my shop A rabbit girl in February 2008. I wanted to see if I could do well selling online. I would love to be able to make it my full time work.

Has it changed at all since you began? How?

It has only been a few months. So its hard to say. Though its been a little slower this month than last month.

What is the best part of running your own business?

The best part of running my own business is that I have control over my work. I set the prices and I collect the money. I decide what my work should look like. etc.

and the worst?

The worst to date is when things break I am the one who has to fix them. My large printer broke recently

il_430xn30276184.jpg

You create so many wonderful pieces. Where does your inspiration come from?

I have been inspired by other artists as well as books and movies and television shows. My mind is very impressionable. Things I see leave there imprint on it. These things get translated to my works.

Who is your favorite indie designer?

I have several favorites.

VintagebyCrystal.etsy.com, magicjelly.etsy.com, aminytray.etsy.com, theblackaple.etsy.com. Thats just a few of them.

What was your most recent indie buy?

Lets see, I ordered 3 wonderful huge delicious candy apples from DoubleDippedSweets.etsy.com for my husbands farther’s day gift. They were so large we have been cutting one up each evening after dinner to share between 3 of us.

What one thing couldn’t you live without?

A heart. In so many ways.

il_430xn28846784.jpg

What will you be wearing come summer?

powdered wigs, hoop skirts, white gloves, petticoats, lace up boots, parasols, the usual

What music/books/magazines are you into right now?

Music- Gram Rabbit, The Ramone’s. Tom Waits, Tapes n tapes, Rasputina, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and so many more. Books- Hannible rising, anything by Neil Gaimen, anything by Chuck Phalaniuk, Glass castles, Fabels (graphic novels by Bill Wellingham), Perfume, Wicked again there are too many to list Magazines Wired, National geographic, Juxtapose, Family fun (the articles in Family fun make me tear up. I am unsure why.)

You’ve been very successful at selling your designs online, what advice would you give to other designers that are just starting out?

Have patience with yourself and others, Good communication is a must in any life endeavor, be professional (know what not to say and when not to say it. Online this is equal to knowing when to not post an opinion) think about what you say and how you say it to others. Don’t jump to conclusions, work hard to get what you want (the world owes you nothing), don’t waste time, take pride in your work, take pride in yourself, being positive and polite goes a long way.

Where do you hope you/your business will be in 5 years?

I hope to be selling at least ten items daily. I hope to be able to sustain myself and my family on my shop business. I hope to be happy doing this.

Do you have any new projects on the horizon?

Rubie Green

If you’re looking for eco-friendly upholstery fabric, then look no further than online shop Rubie Green. The shop is run by Domino contributor Michelle Adams, who while working on the magazine’s inaugural “green issue,” realized no one was making eco-friendly textiles in classic prints. She saw an opportunity to combine her two passions: design and sustainability. So, in 2007 she left the magazine to start Rubie Green.

rubiegreen.jpg

All of Rubie Green’s upholstery fabrics are made of 100% certified organic cotton, which is whitened without bleach and printed domestically with water-based, non-toxic inks that contain no VOCs. This printing process is actually so water efficient that the factory where it’s printed uses just one gallon of water per day!

French Court Orders eBay to Pay $61 Million in Fake Goods Case

In the matter of a lawsuit brought against eBay, the world’s largest online auction site, a French court has ordered the company to pay $61 million (€38.6 million) in restitution to LVMH, a Paris-based luxury items retailer. LVMH brought the suit against eBay over the sale of millions of dollars worth of counterfeit luxury goods in a series of online auctions.

LVMH specializes in high-end fashion, leather, perfumes and colognes. The suit charged that eBay Inc. was responsible for the sale of fraudulent luxury products on their French web site. LVMH claimed that as much as 90% of the high fashion items sold on the side, including expensive Louis Vuitton handbags were fakes.

ebay-frAlthough eBay did not directly sell the fake items, a Paris court ruled Monday that the company did not do enough to rein in the widespread sale of counterfeit goods on their web site. Furthermore, because eBay earns a commission on each sale, the court found the company complicit in the crime, and charged that eBay did not take reasonable action to protect buyers from fraud.

Although eBay has announced that they will appeal the ruling, this is the second French court which has sided with LVMH, making it unlikely that a higher court will overturn the verdict. In a statement, and eBay representative said the company remained alert to auctions offering counterfeit products, adding “we take them down swiftly.”

This is not the first time eBay has faced legal trouble in France. Earlier this year, a French court ordered eBay to fork over €20,000 in restitution to Hermes International for not properly vetting the sale of the company’s handbags in online auctions. Among other statements, the court recommended that eBay require all sellers to post extensive product information and guarantees of authenticity.

France is a tough market for eBay. The French fashion houses are notoriously protective of their brand names, and aggressively pursue fakes. The French legal system also has a long history of siding with the fashion industry in these types of disputes. More than likely, eBay will wind up having to pay the $61 million; many analysts believe it is unlikely that a higher court will even hear the case for appeal.

In the United States, eBay has also had similar suits brought by the high-end fashion houses. For example, New York’s Tiffany & Company is currently suing eBay for millions in damages for allegedly failing to properly protect against the sale of fraudulent items. A verdict has yet to be reached in the Tiffany case.

Homemade Gift Ideas for Boyfriend

Part of being a sweet and thoughtful girlfriend is giving a gift as a sign of affection. Even though it is not his birthday, or its not Valentines Day, or Christmas, sometimes you need to give a gift once in awhile. You will be surprised that some guys actually love receiving gifts. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive. A homemade gift can definitely do that job of pleasing him. Not only it’s affordable but it got a personal touch to it. The look on his face would probably be priceless and he would appreciate you more than ever. He definitely will pay you back with more love and care or who knows the watch that you like.

giftideasWhen deciding to give a gift, the important thing to consider is what the recipient wants. It is not what you want to give him. Being creative plays a huge role when thinking of what to give. Your personality should reflect on the gift that you will give him. Homemade gifts are not only cheap but it surely shows that it comes from the bottom of your heart.

The internet is the popular thing right now and what a better idea to create a website for him. This is perfect if your boyfriend love to browse the web. If you are not that familiar with coding or website design, there are a lot of cheap design companies you could hire.

Another idea is to make a scrapbook where you can put your pictures together. It is a good way to capture memories forever. The bookstore got a section for scrapbook materials where you could find different papers, stickers and a lot more. There are also customized and ready made scrapbooks available in market. All you need is paste pictures and write messages. A collage is another good idea. Just like a scrapbook you can put in memorable stuffs like movie tickets, souvenirs and others. All you need is a sturdy cardboard and some art materials to start with.

Food they say is a way to a man’s heart and nothing could go wrong if you prefer something sweet and delicious. Do away with your usual box of chocolate and try making your own. You can bake heart shaped cookies and put them in a nice box. You can even put your boyfriend’s name on it to add a little touch. There are lots of recipes found in the internet whether you want to bake brownies, fudge cake or whatever your heart desires.

If you like to sew, then there a few gift ideas that can be realistic enough and can be done in little time. You could create a small teddy bear and dress it up with a sweet message in front. A knitted sweater is an idea so you could put on your knitting skills into practice. Most guys would love this because they can remember you every time they wear it.

You could also create a key chain with photo of you in it. Print a photo then laminate it. Put a hole for the key ring and voila you have a personalized key chain.

Remember that good present may not be expensive. Spending all your savings to show love is not advisable. Try browsing for more homemade gift ideas that can suit your boyfriend.
